Her Dream: To Participate in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games

Citlally Abigail Borges Tun, Quintana Roo’s Citizen of the Year, discovered her passion at swim meets, and her great dedication and persistence took her to the top.

Citlally was born in the municipality of Solidaridad. She’s 15 years old, and at the age of 12 began swimming. Her visual challenge has never been an impediment for this young swimmer.

“Representing my state is truly something wonderful; I didn’t imagine I could do it. And now that I have, I’m very proud of myself for having done it.”

Her desire to triumph has let her bring home four gold medals for Quintana Roo. She has also been invited to be part of the national team to compete internationally. Nothing can stop her, and now she dreams of being able to participate in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

Citizen of the Year is a program sponsored by the Grupo Salinas Consultative Councils to recognize exemplary individuals all over the country whose work has transformed their communities.
